What: John Lewis and Rixo have launched a 44-piece collection, priced from £65 to £525, featuring the first archive print used in a John Lewis fashion collaboration.

Why it is important: Exclusive designer capsules are a lever for repositioning its fashion offer, and the Rixo launch, its largest yet, tests that strategy at scale during the party season.

John Lewis has unveiled the Rixo collection, its largest fashion collaboration to date. Available in 30 UK stores, the launch supports British design talent and adds to the retailer's premium brand portfolio, while giving Rixo a presence beyond its London stores.

The vintage-inspired, print-heavy range works for day and evening, with a clear skew towards party season. It spans dresses, knitwear, blouses, jackets, skirts, scarves, shoes and bags in an autumnal palette, using velvet, cashmere, metallic embroidery, sequins and lamé, with faux fur and lace trims on selected pieces. The hero piece, the Vesper, is a full-length dress with cap sleeves and a ruffle neckline.

An exclusive floral motif drawn from the John Lewis Partnership Archive and inspired by a block-printed 19th-century textile dating back to 1849 appears across two dresses, a blouse, a skirt and a scarf. Prices range from £65 to £525 for a lace-trimmed dress, and selected mainline Rixo jewellery and footwear from the campaign will be sold online.

Founder Orlagh McCloskey said a collaboration should feel as strong as anything the brand has created before. The launch coincides with H&M's Elie Saab drop, underlining the importance of partywear collaborations at this time of year.

IADS Notes: When the partnership was announced in the summer, John Lewis presented it as a way to strengthen its premium fashion credentials while extending Rixo's reach beyond its London stores, with the collection slated for all John Lewis fashion stores and online (Press Release, July 2026); at launch, the in-store rollout covers 30 stores. Rixo is the largest in a run of exclusive designer capsules that have become the retailer's main lever for repositioning its fashion offer, following a 32-piece menswear collection with Savile Row label Clothsurgeon, priced from £29 to £435 and sold online and in five stores (Drapers, October 2026). The capsules run alongside a parallel push on own-label, where new fashion creative director Jacqui Markham aims to make John Lewis's classics good enough to pass for high-end designer pieces (Drapers, October 2026). The launch also lands as consumer attention shifts towards department stores: ahead of Christmas, John Lewis held 3.09% of UK fashion and retail brand search, up 0.03 points year on year, as Selfridges and Harrods also gained share while Shein, Very and ASOS lost ground (Retail Times, October 2026).
