Trent's Q2 revenue rises 23% YoY to Rs 5,788 crore; Zudio crosses 1,000-store milestone
What: Trent's Q2 FY27 standalone revenue rose 23% year on year to Rs 5,788 crore, and Zudio opened its 1,000th store.
Why it is important: Revenue growth accelerated to 23% in Q2 from 19% in Q1, showing that Trent's rapid expansion is still converting into sales as Zudio passes 1,000 stores.
Tata Group's Trent reported a 23% year-on-year increase in standalone revenue from operations, excluding GST, to Rs 5,788 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, up from Rs 4,724 crore a year earlier. Revenue for the first half of FY27 rose 21% to Rs 11,454 crore, compared with Rs 9,505 crore in the corresponding period. Revenue from the sale of merchandise grew 23% in Q2 and 21% in H1, according to the company's exchange filing.
During the quarter, Trent opened its 1,000th Zudio store. As of September 30, its portfolio stood at 1,342 stores across Westside, Zudio and other lifestyle brands. On a net basis, the company added 10 Westside and 17 Zudio stores in Q2, and 11 Westside and 36 Zudio stores in H1.
Trent shares ended Monday's session flat at Rs 2,580 on the NSE. The stock has declined 9.95% year to date and 19.64% over the past year. It hit a 52-week high of Rs 3,399.70 on July 3, 2026, and a low of Rs 2,183.67 on March 30, 2026. Market capitalisation stood at Rs 1,37,573.93 crore.
IADS Notes: Trent's expansion has been covered as both a growth story and a margin test. Zudio's street-front, low-price model took it to 1,000 stores in a decade, with weekly product launches and room for around 4,000 more locations, while competition from Reliance Trends and Max Fashion is intensifying (Financial Times, July 2026). Group revenue grew 19% to Rs 5,666 crore in the first quarter on Westside and Zudio rollout, with the need to balance scale and profitability flagged alongside it (India Economic Times, July 2026). The same month, Westside was reported to be planning up to 100 stores a year, roughly double its current pace, as Zudio's revenue growth slows and Reliance and Aditya Birla compete harder (India Economic Times, July 2026). The profitability concern predates these reports: rapid store openings were already seen as straining margins and operational efficiency in April 2026 (India Economic Times, April 2026). In January 2026, a 16% fall in revenue per square foot, concerns about cannibalisation and a sharp share-price decline had already put the pace of expansion under investor scrutiny (Bloomberg, January 2026).
