A mummified monkey has been found during redevelopment work in an old department store in the US in Minneapolis. The famous Dayton's store founded in 1902 by George Draper Dayton merged in 1969 with Hudson of Detroit, forming the Dayton-Hudson Corporation. Dayton was the founder of Target in 1962. Dayton-Hudson stores were in turn acquired by Chicago-based Marshall Field's, which then became May Company prior to its acquisition by Federated Department Stores which rebranded it as Macy's. The origins of the monkey are therefore uncertain. However it is thought unlikely that it was an early customer of the Dayton store. The store is currently undergoing transformation into an office building and food hall.
