Mexico City mayor Claudia Sheinbaum has announced the closure of all shopping centers, department stores and non-essential businesses in city to limit the spread of coronavirus. Essential businesses including supermarkets, other food stores, pharmacies, gas stations and banks will remain open. Restaurants are limited to providing take-out to customers. Large public parks in the capital have also been shut down. Although their closure in the capital is obligatory, the department store chains El Palacio de Hierro, Sears and  Liverpool announced that they were closing all their stores across the country for a month due to the coronavirus pandemic and the government's declaration of a health emergency.
