An article in the Financial Times describes the effects of the strike in France over pension reforms. Following on from the "gilets jaunes" protests earlier in the year, the current strike constitutes a second blow to retailers, hospitality industry, restaurants etc. where traffic is severely down at a crucial time of the year for business. The strike affecting transport, makes it difficult for shoppers to come into Paris or to spend longer than necessary in the city, as well as making it a real headache for employees to reach their places of business, which often start the day later and close earlier as a result.
