What: YouTube has launched its UK Shopping Affiliate Programme with major retailers including M&S, Next, Debenhams and Boots.

Why it is important: The launch shows how creator-led commerce is becoming a mainstream retail channel, linking product discovery, trusted recommendations and conversion.

YouTube has launched its Shopping Affiliate Programme in the UK, with major retailers including Marks & Spencer, Next, Debenhams, Boots, Currys, Etsy and Wayfair already signed up. The programme is designed to connect creators, retailers and viewers more seamlessly, ahead of the wider rollout of YouTube Shopping in the coming weeks. The platform said creator-led shopping is growing rapidly, with 110 million hours of shopping videos watched annually on YouTube and UK viewing of shopping content rising 50% in 2025. YouTube UK managing director Alison Lomax said the programme will help creators diversify earnings while strengthening links between creators, fans and brands. Creator Tim Dessaint said the tools, including interactive stickers and precise timestamps, would allow product recommendations to be integrated naturally into content. For retailers, the launch creates another route to reach consumers through trusted creator communities, turning inspiration and product discovery into measurable shopping journeys without disrupting the viewing experience.

IADS Notes: YouTube’s UK Shopping Affiliate Programme extends a social-commerce shift already visible in notionnews coverage over the past year, as retailers increasingly use creator-led platforms to turn discovery into conversion. M&S’s November 2025 launch on TikTok Shop showed how shoppable content and live engagement can help legacy retailers reach younger, digitally native consumers. Retail Week’s July 2026 coverage of TikTok Shop UK’s Summer Sale further demonstrated that creator recommendations, LIVE shopping and integrated checkout are now driving measurable sales growth. Pinterest’s June 2026 shopping tools point to the same platform-commerce evolution, with visual discovery becoming scalable retail infrastructure. Debenhams’ November 2025 retail media platform also shows how marketplace retailers are building advertising and affiliate-style monetisation into their digital models. More broadly, MBS’s July 2025 analysis framed retail media as a strategic revenue stream that connects advertising to purchase, which helps explain why YouTube is positioning creators, retailers and viewers within one shoppable ecosystem.
