Hamleys owner considers House of Fraser
The Chinese owner of Hamleys toy stores is in talks to take a stake in UK department store group House of Fraser. Hamleys owner C.banner International has signed an understanding with Nanjing Xinjiekou which holds an 89% stake in House of Fraser and is part of Sanpower, the Chinese firm that paid £480m for the department store in 2014. House of Fraser operates 59 stores, with 6000 staff and 11 500 concession staff.
C.banner, best known as a footwear retailer, bought Hamleys in October 2015, and has shown an interest in House of Fraser for two years. It operates three Hamleys stores, in China, in Nanjing, Xuzhou and Beijing.
