Chanel takes stake in Farfetch

Luxury brand Chanel has taken a minority stake in London-based online retailer Farfetch. The luxury goods company is interested in trying to expand its digital services to court younger more tech-savvy clients. Under the deal, Chanel will not sell its goods through Farfetch but will work with the platform on digital innovations linked to customer services. These could include smartphone apps allowing people to flag their preferences and sizes before visiting a store, or located items spotted in magazines, for example. The move, according to Chanel, is about enriching the relationship with customers. Other investors in Farfetch include Chinese online retailer JD.com, French investment company Eurazeo and Singapore state investor Temask.
